Privacy Policy
Last updated October 8, 2026 — version 1.0 (iOS and Android)
Wax & Wane is a moon-phase journal made by BlackRaven AI LLC. It is built so that what you write stays on your device. There is no account and no sign-in, and we do not operate a server that receives your journal.
The short version
- Your journal, moods, tarot pulls, letters, birth details and chart are stored only on your device.
- No account, no login, and no name or email is required. A name you give the app stays on your device.
- The app contains no advertising, no analytics SDK and no cross-app tracking, does not request Apple's tracking permission, and does not use the Android advertising ID. RevenueCat verifies purchases and provides subscription reporting; it does not receive your journal or birth details.
- We never see your journal, so we cannot sell it, share it, or use it to train AI — and we do not.
Information stored on your device
The app stores the following in its local storage on your device: journal pages and the time you wrote them; the "sky snapshot" saved with each page (moon phase and sign, and which planets were retrograde); mood words and your position on the mood field; the kind of page and any prompt you answered; daily tarot pulls; letters sealed to a future moon; the count and date of releases (the words you burn are discarded and never saved); your birth date, birth time (if you provide it) and birthplace, and the natal chart calculated from them; skies you have paired with through Kindred; your settings (including an optional name and your moth's name); and progress such as nights, moonlight, degrees, talismans and seals.
All astronomical calculations, readings, insights and the Year Ahead are computed on your device. Birthplace search uses a list of cities bundled inside the app, so what you type is not sent anywhere.
Widgets and notifications
Widgets are available on iPhone only; the Android app has no widgets. If you add the iPhone widgets, the app shares a small summary with them through storage on your device (the App Group): the moon for the coming nights, whether tonight's candles are lit, your degree, today's card name, a short line of text and the name you gave the app. It does not leave your device.
If you turn on the nightly note, the app schedules local notifications on your device. If you start the Almanac free trial, the app also schedules one local reminder two nights before the trial ends. The app asks for notification permission (on Android 13 and later, the system notification permission) only at those moments; on Android it also re-schedules pending notes after your phone restarts. Notifications describe the sky, say that a sealed letter has come due, or remind you that a free trial is ending. They never contain anything you wrote. You can turn them off in the app or in your device settings.
Sharing you choose to do
Share images. When you share a print, the image is created on your device and handed to your device's share sheet. Journal text is never placed on an image. Some prints do contain personal details you should know about: the Big Six print shows your birth date and birth city; the new-moon letter shows counts and your most-used mood word; the Kindred print shows the names of both people.
Kindred links. An invitation link contains the name you chose in the app and your calculated planetary positions (and rising sign, if you gave a birth time). It does not contain your birth date, time or place. However, planetary positions can be used to estimate a birth date, so share links only with people you trust. You decide where to send the link; it does not pass through our servers. Opening a link on our website shows the inviter's name in the page, which runs in your browser.
Export. "Export everything" creates a file containing all of your data, including your journal. Keep it somewhere safe.
Purchases
The Almanac subscriptions and lifetime purchase use Apple's App Store on iOS and Google Play Billing on Android. Apple or Google processes payment; we do not receive your payment-card details. RevenueCat processes purchase history, product identifiers, subscription status and an automatically generated anonymous app-user identifier to validate purchases, restore access, prevent fraud and provide subscription reporting. We do not send your name, email, journal, moods or birth details to RevenueCat, and do not use purchase records for advertising or cross-app tracking. RevenueCat may also process basic technical information such as app version, platform and IP address when it checks a purchase. See the Apple Privacy Policy, Google Privacy Policy and RevenueCat Privacy Policy.
Backups
Your device's own backups (iCloud or Google) may include the app's data, under your Apple or Google account and their terms. We do not hold a copy. If you erase the app's data or lose your device without a backup, we cannot recover your journal.
Health and beliefs
Mood journaling can reveal information about your health, and astrology can relate to your beliefs. We treat everything you record as sensitive by keeping it on your device. We do not collect, share or sell consumer health data. Wax & Wane is a reflective journal, not medical or mental-health care. If you are in crisis, contact local emergency services, or in the US call or text 988.
Children
Wax & Wane is intended for adults and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children.
Data summary (Google Play Data safety)
- Collected: purchase history (product, transaction and subscription status) and an anonymous app-user identifier, processed by RevenueCat and the store to provide, restore and report purchases. Nothing else leaves your device unless you choose to share it.
- Shared: no data is shared with third parties for advertising or any other purpose; RevenueCat acts as our service provider.
- Not collected: journal pages, moods, tarot pulls, letters, birth details, chart, name, email, contacts, location or photos.
- Security: purchase checks are encrypted in transit. You can erase all in-app data at any time (see below).
Your choices and rights
You can view, export and permanently erase all of your data at any time in the app (the Study — the sun-shaped Settings button on Tonight — then Export everything or Hold to erase everything). Deleting the app also deletes its data from your device (on Android you can also use Settings → Apps → Wax & Wane → Storage → Clear storage). To ask us to delete your anonymous purchase record held by RevenueCat, email support@blackravenai.com with the subject "Data deletion" and, if possible, the order ID from your store receipt; deleting it does not cancel a subscription, so cancel in your store account first. Apple and Google keep their own transaction records under their policies. Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete or restrict processing of personal information and to complain to a data-protection authority. Because we hold no journal data, most requests can be completed on your device; for anything else, email support@blackravenai.com. If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to include.
International users
BlackRaven AI LLC is a United States company. Your journal stays on your device wherever you are. Apple, Google and RevenueCat process purchase information under their own policies and may do so in other countries. Erasing your local journal does not cancel a store subscription or erase purchase records retained by these services. Contact support@blackravenai.com for purchase-data privacy requests.
Changes to this policy
If the app's data practices change — for example, if we add a service that processes information — we will update this policy and its date before that version is released. We will never change the app to read, sell or train AI on journal content you have already written.
