Need help with Wax & Wane? Email support@blackravenai.com — a person reads every message. Please don’t send journal entries; we don’t need them to help.
Where do I start?
On Tonight, open your sealed horoscope for a little perspective. Then choose a check-in, Write it out, or a card. One moment is enough — you don’t need to complete all three. For a short visual walkthrough, open the Study (Settings) → How it works → Start here · How it works.
How do I write and save a reflection?
Tap Write it out on Tonight. New reflections offer a question to help you begin; you can answer it or write about something else. Choose a feeling, write a little, or both, then hold the wax seal to save. Find your saved pages in Journal. Use the close button on a sheet when you want to leave it — you don’t have to swipe it away.
What does the Grimoire show?
Grimoire collects your reflections and patterns over time. In “Your month of reflection,” each dot represents a night in the current lunar cycle and the ring marks today. The sign named there is the sign of the new moon that began the cycle, not your birth sign. Your reflections light up the cycle; there’s no need to fill every night. There is no moth to care for in the current app.
Where is my journal stored?
Only on your device. There is no account and no copy on our servers — which is why we can’t read it, and also why we can’t restore it for you.
How do I back up or move to a new phone?
Open the Study (Settings on Tonight) → Export everything to save a JSON file of your data somewhere safe. This is an archive you can keep; the current app does not have an import button or automatic journal sync between devices. Your device’s own backup may include app data, but we cannot guarantee recovery. Keep the old device and its app data until you have checked your backup.
Delete your data
Study → Hold to erase everything. It is permanent. Deleting the app also removes its data from your device (on Android, Settings → Apps → Wax & Wane → Storage → Clear storage also works). There is no account to delete. The only record kept outside your device is your anonymous purchase history with the store and RevenueCat; to ask us to delete the RevenueCat record, email support@blackravenai.com with the subject “Data deletion”. Erasing data does not cancel a subscription — cancel it in your store account first.
I don’t know my birth time.
That’s common. Choose “I don’t know my birth time” and your chart is read by the sun (without a rising sign or houses). You can add the time later in Study → Birth details.
What’s free, and what is the Almanac?
Unlimited journal pages, mood check-ins, the daily reading, a daily card, Look Up (an evening stargazing reading), your chart and placements, rituals and Kindred are free. The Almanac adds the full Year Ahead, deeper readings, pattern insights, aspect explanations, unlimited sealed letters, a night-early look at tomorrow’s omen, the moon read through your houses in Look Up, and two rare seal finishes. The purchase screen shows the available plans and store prices before you confirm. See the Terms for details.
How do I restore or cancel a purchase?
Restore: Study → Restore purchases (or Restore on the Almanac page), signed in to the same Apple account or Google Play account you bought with. Cancel: on iPhone, Settings → your name → Subscriptions → Wax & Wane. On Android, open the Google Play Store app → your profile icon → Payments & subscriptions → Subscriptions → Wax & Wane. Uninstalling doesn’t cancel. Refunds are handled by Apple or Google Play; see the Terms.
How do I add the widgets?
On iPhone: touch and hold your Home Screen → Edit → Add Widget → Wax & Wane. Open the app once first so the widget has tonight’s sky. Lock Screen widgets are added from the Lock Screen’s Customize screen. Widgets are not yet available on Android.
What happens if I miss a night?
Your saved reflections stay yours. Cloud Cover can protect missed nights in your reflection streak, with two covers renewed each new moon. If you want a longer break, turn on Sabbatical in the Study to pause nightly notes and protect your streak during your rest. It does not pause or cancel a paid subscription.
A purchase or restore isn’t working.
Check your internet connection and that you’re signed in to the store account used for the purchase, then try Restore purchases in the Study. Restore unlocks an existing Almanac purchase; it does not restore journal entries. If the issue continues, email us with your device model, OS and app version, and the message shown. Please don’t send payment details or private journal content.
How does Kindred work?
Chart → Pair a sky → Send an invitation. The link carries your name in the app and your planetary positions (not your birth date, time or place). Positions can hint at a birth date, so send it only to people you trust.
The nightly note isn’t arriving.
Check that it’s on in the Study and that notifications are allowed for Wax & Wane in your device settings (on Android: Settings → Apps → Wax & Wane → Notifications). Notes pause during Sabbatical.
Is this fortune telling?
No. Wax & Wane is a journal that uses the sky as a mirror. Nothing in it predicts events.
